does thyroid problems in dogs make them hungry?
i thought thyroid problems made them fatter… but not hungry right?

Hyperthyroidism can make dogs hungryer, byt hypothyroidism tends not to make them hungry, they just gain weight and become lazy.
If you’re seeing an increased appetite and weight gain, it may be Cushing’s disease and yo should ask your vet to give your dog a blood test. The condition is ultimately fatal if not treated.
Dogs with hypothyroidism are usually less hungry until they are diagnosed. Once they are on medication, they will have a normal appetite. Be sure to have the blood levels tested every 6 mos to make sure the medication dose doesnt need to be tweaked. Other symptoms of hypothyroidsim are lethargy, dog feeling hot all of the time (panting), odorous skin, fur missing in spots, itching, wieght gain, crhronic skin infections. But once treated and thyroid levels normal, this all goes away.
With hyperthyroidism (not too common in canines), they would be hungry all the time, loss weight no matter how much they ate.
