Has anyone know if thyroid medicine can clause depression?????? ?
I had part of my thyroid taken out, and they put me on meds, but i have been suffering from depression. So i was wondering if anybody has had any problems with the meds????????
Thanks.
They put me on Synthoid, but didn’t check the box, so i am recieving generic brand, Levothyroxin. Now isn’t either meds. suppose to shut down the thyoid and just give you the amounts of that you need? And does it matter if i get an generic? Thanks.
You are suffering from depression because you are on thyroxine, aka Synthroid, Levoxyl, Levothyroxine, etc. That is a T4 only med—a storage hormone. And the body is NOT meant to live on T4 alone! The result: you are chronically UNDERTREATED, and depression is the result. Millions of us have had that while on thyroxine.
A second problem is being dosed by the TSH lab, which ALWAYS leaves everyone underdosed.
The solution? Find a doc to put you on desiccated thyroid aka Armour, Naturethroid, etc. It contains exactly what your own thyroid makes: T4, T3, T2, T1 and calcitonin. And if you dose it correctly i.e raise high enough and NOT by the TSH, your depression will be GONE.
Read the link I am providing below. It will explain all this. Read the T4 Only Meds Don’t Work, and TSH Why Its Useless, then Natural Thyroid 101.
probably. the fact that they took half of your thyroid, alone, could probably affect your mood, as well. maybe they don’t have the correct cocktail of medication going for you. i would definitely see your doctor and let him/her know what’s going on.
I don’t take the meds but I am a nurse. A lot of meds can cause depression as a side effect. Talk with your doctor to see what they would advise. Read the side effects on the meds you are on. That will at least narrow down the possibilities.
