Is there a dog food that helps with Thyroid problems in dogs?
Non perscription would be prefered. There are some foods that target other health problems.
We have seen a vet and was given a perscription but I was curious if the was a easier way to solve a nutrition problem and a health problem. His thyroid is sluggish.
You should ask your vet on this one. The answers you get here aren’t that reliable.
it probably has to be proscription.
There is no food that helps with it, just prescription medications….at least that is what we have been told – our 9 year old Black Lab has this condition, developed it about a year ago
If you are looking for your dog to gain weight again after developing this issue try mixing in a little bit of high quality canned food with his kibble or mix a puppy formula kibble into his food. Both of those will help him gain some weight again. I don’t know if your lost a lot of weight all of a sudden but ours did…about 20 lbs.
Good Luck
natural balance it helps but medication also
my dog likes the potato and duck
There isn’t anything you can get without a vet’s prescription. Hyperthyroid means the thyroid is overactive. Hypothyroid means the thyroid is underactive. Both are complete opposites of each other and you need a vet to determine which, then to what degree. Just like people, they have to take medication for it and the dosage has to be adjusted to suit each animal so they don’t get too much (which can cause additional problems) or may need their thyroid partially removed. And the thyroid controls almost everything in your body from skin condition, gum healthy, stamina, heart regularity, mental function, etc. so if you value your dog, take him to a vet and spend the money.
