My mom is a doctor and she suspects i might have a thyroid gland disorder. But with school and other things going on, we still haven’t had the chance to go to the hospital and get tested. So, im just wondering whether im just fat (altough i don’t know why since i exercise a lot and don’t really eat that much) or is it possible that the weight gain isn’t my fault and could be an effect of the thyroid gland disorder? :( ( Plz help…

my mom has thyroid problems and i was wonder if i could have it to. what are the symptoms if any? and im 14 yr.s old..
how do i go about asking my dr. if i have thyroid problems?
can it cause me to be more tired and make it hard for me to fall asleep?

If doctors have found all 3 types of disporders linking together why not just look at it as thyroid disorder, plenty of articles so far ive read today lead directly to bad diagnoses of patients with thyroid problems, if loss of energy and depression are only treated for depression shouldnt docs be more focused these days to make damn sure its not a thyroid disorder. For the past couple of years myself ive been having the exact symptons, the response from the doctors has so far been are you training, i say no so that is the problem straight away, forget the blood test patient, just get out there, so what if you pretty much are to tired and depressed to do training why dont they go heck lets check for thyroid, and my mom has diabetes she has all the signs of thyroid mulfunction so now shes been on diabetes meds, but thyroid is directly linked to how your body produces insulen or not enough of it aswell as loss of energy and therefore not enough sleep lack of concentration. What is wrong with these docs ill be pissed if my moms diabetes was wrongly diagnosed especially if its a problem with her thyroid, plus meds for diabetes are expensive maybe its about helping the parmaceutical companies to profit more but thats just sick.

Whats your point of view on this.

My mom has an overactive thyroid- and I think I have an Underactive thyroid…..I always feel sluggish, hungry and I’m always bloated, I have also gained some weight recently.. Are there any other symptoms with an underactive thyroid? I going to a doctor next week but I would like to get a little bit of info about it.

Thanks :)

2-3 months ago my mom had a partial thyroidectomy done and now she has extremely high blood pressure, today the doctor put her on high blood pressure meds and did blood tests to see what kind of supplements to put her on, is this normal to develop high blood pressure from the thyroid not functioning right?

My mom suffers from a thyroid condition and there is a good chance it could be hereditary. Because of her thyroid condition, my mom gained nearly a hundred pounds, as well as various other side effects, before her doctors could figure out why and stabilize her, and her doctors believe that it might be genetic. Because she was adopted and her records sealed, we have no way to prove one way or the other.

So, at 18, I’m wondering what I and my younger sister and brother can to to keep our thyroids in good health and prevent or lower the risk of illness/disease.
I believe my mother has hypothyroidism.

my mom and i have been dieting and working out 5-6 days a week for the past few months, she is losing weight regularly, and i can not seems to lose more than a few pounds and then i gain it right back. my grandma, my mom, and my aunt all have thyroid problems, and are on medication to control it, i have never been tested for thyroid problems (im 23), my mom keeps telling me i need to be tested, could a thyroid problem really stop me from losing weight? i always felt like saying that was a cop out for people who werent really trying hard to lose weight but i am really trying hard, my mom and i are doing the exact same workout routine, and eat a lot of the same things too, so im just confused as to why shes losing weight and im not, could it really be due to a thyroid issue? thanks for any thoughts!

My mom has had thyroid problems (it eventually had to be removed), and I would like to recognize any problems before they get too advanced, preferably without having to get a blood test every few months for it.

I know the thyroid gland regulates like temperature and mood, how could I isolate any problems caused by my thyroid?

After my miscarriage (3 mos. pregnant) I started to lose weight for what seemed like no reason. Then I got pregnant again and gained weight like normal, carried the baby to term and now my baby is 14 mos. and my weight is lower than ever! (93 lbs)- I cant’ seem to gain. I went to a doctor who specialized in thryoid since my mom has this but she gains weight. He said in a small percentage of people who have underactive thyroid there is weightloss. I’m just wondering how can this be true and if anyone has ever heard of this…

I have a family history of slow thyroids and, frankly, thyroids that quit. My metabolism is SLOW. I’ve had depression and a lot of other symptoms. My mom’s thyroid just gave out and they’ve put her on replacement thyroid hormone. She’s lost a ton of weight and she’s much happier.

I’ve taken every blood test that I know to ask for. They agree my thyroid is on the sluggish side, but that’s it. Should I see an endocrinologist? What do I do next?

My mom is getting over weight. She had two liposuction and she tried every diet she have heard. We know she has an hormone disorder, but she went to the doctor and didn’t help, she heard that probably is hypothyroidism. Her legs and arms are huge and she feels discomfort , burning, tingling, tired, and not even before to go to bed. Also she is retaining water.

I have a family history of thyroid disorders. My mom had thyroid cancer and my father had hyperthyroid. I had a goiter 3 years ago. It was drained and turned to be benign. My recent blood work indicated that my thyroid is functioning normally. However, I have been feeling a bit sluggish and have put on over 10 pounds in the last 5 months without changing my eating habits at all.
Any advice is appreciated!

I have been having night sweats, and inability to lose weight, and chronic fatigue. I am 26 and my mom had these symptoms when she was my age and it was her thyroid. Does anyone know what the symptoms are of a thyroid condition?
