underactive thyroid symptoms-Underactive Thyroid and Weight Loss

Underactive Thyroid and Weight Loss

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism over a year ago! Since then I have done a lot of research on the subject to see what causes hypothyroidism, what the symptoms are and what can or can`t be done to treat it. Hypothyroidism is a lack of thyroid hormone in the body. Thyroid hormone, which controls metabolism, is an important part of many of the body’s functions including growth and development. Hypothyroidism is thought to be very common and is estimated to affect nearly 10 million Americans and 1 out of every 10 women. The most common cause is inflammation of the thyroid gland due to autoimmune disease. A blood test is required to confirm the problem of an underactive thyroid gland. But the cause of hypothyroidism will remain still unknown. Thyroid scans and the results of antibody screening tests help to determine the underlying cause of the thyroid.

Hyperthyroid grows gradually but one can observe its symptoms suddenly which include severe muscle cramps in the arms, neck, legs, back and shoulders, mental sluggishness, hoarseness, swollen facial features and also enlarged tongue. On Monday morning, I camped in my doctor’s office until I could be seen. I was told that the most common cause of “Unilateral Propotosis” (bulging eye) is Graves Disease, Thyroid Eye Disease, tumors or bleeding. The preliminary diagnosis was Graves Disease. My doctor gave me a referral to an Endocrinologist and an Optician for my eyes. One of the biggest problems people who are dealing with a hormone imbalance struggle with is weight gain. The best way to make sure their weight stays manageable the person is going to have to make sure they are eating less trans fats and more natural foods. The symptoms I was experiencing with my hypothyroidism were things like depression, low sex drive, weight gain (which compounded my existing weight issues), puffy face and eyelids, really bad PMS (my poor husband), constipation and my skin was crazy itchy and dry.

The thyroid treatments available today, require taking prescription drugs containing chemicals. You have to take these drugs everyday to stimulate your thyroid gland. However, chemicals always have side effects and you will become too much dependent on them to run your day. Iodine deficiency is one of the main causes of hypothyroidism, so inclusion of sea vegetables especially bladder wrack helps in raising the levels of thyroid hormones. Kelp seaweed is rich in iodine and antioxidants that helps in proper functioning of the gland. Hyperthyroidism is the condition of the body that results due to the over activity of the thyroid gland. Hyper activity of the thyroid produces excess of thyroid hormones that affects the tissues of the body in many ways. This over production of the thyroid hormones leads in an increased metabolism of the body There are several things a person can do to help them cope with hypothyroidism. The first thing they should do is schedule an appointment with their personal physician. The doctor will run some tests and make sure that the side effects are actually do to hormonal imbalance and not the result of different health problem.

Question by Zach: Can the symptoms of diabetes and underactive thyroid be the same?
SORRY FOR ASKING SO MUCH
A little over a year ago I woke up from drinking and felt like shit, which usually isn’t the case. The next two months or so I started to notice that I was urinating a lot and drinking a lot more water than usual. Then I moved from Pennsylvania to Denver and really started to notice the difference. Every day I would wake up feeling as if I had a hangover. I thought it was just the altitude difference but as time went on things got even worse. So I went to the doctors to see if I was diabetic and they said I have an underactive thyroid. They gave me .05mg of levothyroxine “which isn’t a lot from what I understand” and I have been on it for almost a year now. They said I may be sensitive to high level as glucose but should just eat right and exercise. So I have a few questions
1.I’m only 21, is that normal
2.I wasn’t and still am not fat for having a “decrease appetite”
3.I still tend to get dry mouth and urinate a lot “back at sea level, Rhode island lots of humidity”
4.My meds say not to eat anything for an hour after taking it, which if I eat anything within 1.5-2hrs I usually feel like shit and get extreme dry mouth.
5.And ever since college I started to wet to bed every couple months “usually after drinking” is this because of excess blood sugar

I got diabetes when i was 10. I felt like SHIT every day before that for a number of months. The symptoms were similar to what you have had. I’m now a type 1 insulin dependent diabetic, and it sucks ass. Hope you don’t have it.

low thyroid level-The Thyroid Gland And Hair Loss

low thyroid level
by size8jeans

The Thyroid Gland And Hair Loss

If you find yourself with graying hair or thick healthy locks of it, the function of your thyroid gland and the proper amount of hormones it produces will be the key factor. Human hair follicles are directly affected by thyroid hormones as new research in this area has now revealed. New studies reveal that these hormones determine length and pigmentation.

Thyroid Hormones Crash Course

The thyroid gland produces T4 and T3 which are thyroid hormones. It begins with stimulation from the pituitary gland. TSH is one of the hormones secreted by the pituitary gland. TSH is also regulated by the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus is the part of the brain linked to among other things the endocrine system via the pituitary gland. The endocrine system is vital in regulating your metabolism, physical growth and development. Your hair is part of the body’s growth and development and that is why thyroid problems will affect it.

How Hormone Levels Affect Your Hair

Evidence has been collected indicating that hair loss is caused by a decrease in the metabolism of scalp follicles in people with low levels of thyroid hormone. The result is an early release of the hair shaft and hair root. Brittle hair containing split ends and breakages have been observed to correlate with low thyroid hormone levels. Medical practitioners have been able to diagnose low thyroid levels based entirely on early graying and hair loss from the outer ends of the eyebrows.

When the thyroid gland is not functioning properly, the body tries to conserve energy by redirecting thyroid hormones from less essential areas to more essential ones in effort to repair and regenerate those essential areas. This is the underlying reason why hair and skin are among the first to suffer as the thyroid starts to fail. Other problems associated with low thyroid hormone production include a slower intestinal rate of absorption and use of nutrients the body needs. When the body is not getting the raw materials it needs for proper function it does not perform at its best.

Using radioimmunoassay techniques, it is now possible to measure circulating thyroid hormones in the blood much more accurately. Understanding how your thyroid gland functions is important in knowing what thyroid test or tests are needed to diagnose different diseases.

A Little Science

Various reports and studies have covered the impact of thyroid hormones (T3 and T4) on hair follicles. It has been found that T4 increases the healthy proliferation of hair keratinocytes which are the cells that cause hair growth. The combination both thyroid hormones (T3 and T4) decrease programmed cell death. Studies also have also showed that T4 prolongs the hair growth phase. Both hormones stimulated the synthesis of melanin or pigmentation in the hair follicle.

Question by sully5408: My wife is Pregnant/ has low thyroid levels?
My wife is about 12 weeks pregnant and after taking a few blood test, she was asked to come back and take another test because she has a low thyroid level. Has anyone else gone through this? What does this mean for us and the baby? Is it too late to start treatment? Thanks
Is 12 weeks to long into pregnacy to start treatment?

Best answer:

Answer by Ashley M
I had the exact same thing with my second pregnancy. I gained a bit more weight until my meds were straightened out, due to lack of metabolism, but it didn’t affect my baby. They put me on Synthroid to bring my thyroid level to where it is supposed to be. I still have to take it every day, and always will. I get rechecked every 6 mos, to see if the meds need adjusted. I’ve had another child since, and she’s fine too. It sounds the same as what I went through

Are my problems all symptoms of a thyroid problem?

Question by Jen: Are my problems all symptoms of a thyroid problem?
Doctor had a blood test done today because irregular periods and fatigue. I also have acne that just started last few months, losing alot of hair, trouble losing weight, mouthful of canker sores, twitchy eye, blurry vision that comes and goes. Now I’m curious, is all this related? I’ve just been ignoring it, because everytime I go to a doctor for the canker sores they just say it’s stress.

Best answer:

Answer by chatty_redhead
The fatigue, irregular periods, hair loss, and trouble losing weight are all part of a thyroid problem. The twitchy and blurry eyes and the canker sores (and likely the acne) are related to stress, not a thyroid. Your thyroid controls metabolism and none of the eye or skin stuff would be metabolism related.

underactive thyroid symptoms-Underactive Thyroid Disease Can Be Reversed By Dieting

Underactive Thyroid Disease Can Be Reversed By Dieting

I bet you didn’t know that underactive thyroid disease (hypothyroid) in most cases is reversible? It’s true, and the best of all is you don’t actually have to take any drugs to reverse the problem.

It is always advisable to consult your doctor before you try any alternative remedies and most of them will be open to natural methods before prescribing any drugs. If they are simply not open to these alternatives I would consider changing your doctor!

There are some common symptoms that come with hypothyroid. Some of the most common are depression, extreme weight gain, fatigue, short term memory loss, body aches and pains and skin problems (including dryness and itchiness).

A natural solution to your thyroid problem simply is your diet. Everything you need is in the local grocery or supermarket…right on your doorstep!

Just like any diet plan there are foods that will help your situation, and foods to avoid that will just make things worse. The foods you need to be eating should be high in vitamins and minerals and those that provide you with a lot of energy. This will increase your metabolism, the reverse of underactive thyroid disease, and naturally burn fat and lose weight.

You need to remember that weight loss, no matter who you are or what your situation, requires dedication. You need to stick to your chosen diet plan and exercise regular.

So what are the main types of food you should be eating? Lets take a look at 4 of the main food types:

Coconut foods and oils
Seaweed and herbs
Fruits and Vegetables
Healthy fat, such as butter, flax seeds and salmon.

One of the most important things to remember is not to reduce your carbohydrates intake by too much. Even for people without hypothyroid reducing your carbs to a silly degree, like some diet plans do, is just not healthy. For you this will create the completely opposite effect and reduce your thyroid hormone production even more than it already is. Basically this means your metabolism is going to slow down even more and you will gain weight!

Your body is very capable of healing itself if you give it a fighting chance. If your following a good diet, of the right foods and nutrition, and getting regular exercise you will naturally find the problem fixing itself.

Can you imagine how you will feel a few days from starting on your new diet? You will feel much better in yourself, you will probably sleep better and be a lot more restful. Surely you will no longer feel depressed when you see results. This is possible when you have the right information.

The main hurdle you face to begin with is selecting the right diet plan. There are so many options available online it’s hard to chose. You need to be sure your spending your hard earned money on something that is going to work.

If you wish to try some diet pills to accompany your diet I suggest only sticking to proven, pure and natural weight loss pills. One of the purest and most popular pills are based on Hoodia Gordonii. I have reviewed this kind of diet supplement here: Are Hoodia Weight Loss Pills Effective For Appetite Suppression?

Herbal diet pills work very well along side a healthy and nutritious diet plan. I found a great web page that describes in detail the best way to diet when you have underactive thyroid disease. You can read more here: http://www.The-Natural-Thyroid-Diet.com

My name is Helen, I am a 35 year old professional woman. Throughout my teens and twenties I suffered with being overweight and it made me extremely unhappy, I never had a boyfriend until I was 31. I spent years and years searching for the perfect way to lose my weight and I finally did when I was 30. I now try to help others with the same issues by writing articles with tips and tricks to help lose weight in different ways. I found out that it doesn’t actually have to be through painful exercise, or heavy dieting, in fact those ways can be very unhealthy. I understand what people with weight problems go through and I care so much about how they feel. I don’t want anyone to go through the same as I did for all those years. The best solution I found was the one on my business URL…it really helped me and was extremely quick and painless! Anyway, its time for me to get to writing and help you guys out there so you can be happy like I am now :)

Question by lmlm: Started a vegan diet about two months ago, I have recently had symptoms of an underactive thyroid?
I started eating a vegan diet about 3 months ago. In the last 2 weeks, I’m freezing all of the time (I live in the Arizona, so it’s not exactly cold), my skin has gotten drier, always sleepy, sore muscles for no reason. I’m on the thin side, but I always have been.

could it be soy milk inhibiting my thyroid? I drink about a glass or two a day.
I am well-versed in nutrition. For the first two weeks of eating, I anally documented everything I ate and changed my diet accordingly to meet dietary needs.
and that’s how I started drinking soy milk – for calcium and B12, the two nutrients I was lacking.

Best answer:

Answer by Chelseamae6
You are probably not getting enough nutrients and could becoming anemic, have you fully researched how to get all the nutrients you need from a vegan diet? It’s probably NOT the soymilk affecting your thyroid. I would go see your doctor, they can run blood tests to check iron levels, vitamins and thyriod to make sure everything is at the proper levels.

Question by soozemusic: Question on med Levothyroxine for underactive thyroid?
I was told by my doctor recently that I have an underactive thyroid (never had that before I am 44) so he put me on Levothyroxine. Once a day 0.100MG. I am wondering if anyone has any good or bad news on this drug or personal experience and their symptoms of an underactive thyroid because I feel okay. (Aside from being tired). Thanks.

Best answer:

Answer by Fitness Guy
That’s good that you feel okay – perhaps your thyroid problem is mild. 100mg of Thyroxine is quite a big dose but you should feel even better after a couple of weeks of taking it. Levothyroxine is the same as Synthroid – they just have different manufacture names and is highly effective at balancing your thyroid so you are in good hands. It has very few side effects but you should try and eat something around the same time you take your meds as they may make you feel slightly sick.

Are thyroid problems genetic? And what are symptoms of Thyroid Problems?

Question by Sierra: Are thyroid problems genetic? And what are symptoms of Thyroid Problems?
my mom has thyroid problems and i was wonder if i could have it to. what are the symptoms if any? and im 14 yr.s old..
how do i go about asking my dr. if i have thyroid problems?
can it cause me to be more tired and make it hard for me to fall asleep?

Best answer:

Answer by Withagrainofsalt
Yes, there is a genetic component to some thyroid disorders, but that doesn’t mean that you will necessarily have the same problems your mom has. It often takes a mixture of genes and the certain environmental conditions (stress, illness, etc.) for a condition to express itself. Thyroid disorders basically are of two types, hypo and hyper. It would depend on what type of disorder you have in terms of figuring out what the symptoms would be. In any case, thyroid problems are usually very treatable and fairly common. Nothing to worry about.

low thyroid level-Metabolism And Your Thyroid Level

low thyroid level
by guano

Metabolism And Your Thyroid Level

The thyroid gland is a major organ in our bodies that controls a lot of functions that affect our metabolism. When the balance of the thyroid level is where it should be, your body can function as it should be and you can burn calories like you should. When your thyroid is either working too fast or too slow, it can cause your metabolism to slow down or speed up and cause many other areas of your body to be affected. There are conditions known as hypo-thyroidism and hyper-thyroidism that some people develop that cause a lot of different symptoms and problems in the body.

When the thyroid level is normal in the body, it will keep a lot of our functions under control and working properly. When there are fluctuations in the levels of hormones in the body, it can cause a lot of different problems. Temperature control is one of the things that the thyroid works to regulate. If the thyroid levels are high, it can cause sweating and a higher body temperature. When the levels of the thyroid are low, it can cause a person to be unable to handle cold weather and temperatures, and the body temperature is usually colder.

Having a slow working thyroid can mean that you are not able to lose weight, and may keep gaining weight. There are a lot of common symptoms associated with having a slow thyroid. Symptoms that you may have an under active thyroid can include coarse or thinning hair, dry skin, brittle nails, yellowish look of the skin, slow body movements, cool skin, inability to tolerate cold, feeling tired, sluggish, weak, memory problems, depression or difficulty concentrating. The degree of symptoms that you may experience with an under active thyroid depend on your age, how long you have had the problem and the seriousness of the condition. Sometimes, the symptoms may be very mild and go on for some time before you notice them.

The thyroid level can also be elevated which causes a person to keep losing weight and a variety of other health problems. If you are worried that you may have some kind of problem with your thyroid and that your thyroid level is not where it should be, you may want to go see your doctor and get tested for different thyroid conditions that could be causing you problems. There are different treatments options that doctors can have you try in attempts to better keep track of your thyroid level. Medications can help keep it at a normal level and help keep your metabolism working as it should in order to burn calories and help you keep a healthy weight.

My parents don’t believe me when I tell them I feel depressed and I looked online and low thyroid levells (what I have) can cause it.
I’m working on my thyroid level but what can I do about depression?

it can cause depression. people with hypothyroidism (low t3/t4) often have to take anti-depressants.
I’ve heard reports that natural thyroid hormone replacement (so-called armour, from dessicated pig hormone) is less likely to cause such side-effects.

underactive thyroid symptoms-Have A Underactive Thyroid Gland? Here Is How To Lose Weight

Have A Underactive Thyroid Gland? Here Is How To Lose Weight

Many people suffer with an underactive thyroid gland. For you that have this medical condition controlling your weight is extremely difficult and is a frightening prospect. I imagine your feeling quite low with your weight and lost as to where to find a solution. If you think you have or have been diagnosed with this condition losing weight is going to be difficult, but not impossible!

The medical name for your condition is Hypothyroidism.

What Are The Symptoms Of Hypothyroidism?

There are varying symptoms that show an under-active thyroid gland including Fatigue, Short Term Memory Loss, Body Aches and Pains and even Skin Problems. These are a result of your thyroid gland not producing enough of the thyroid hormone (thyroxine), therefore your metabolism is significantly slower than usual. These symptoms reduce motivation for exercise and you begin to put on weight.

Just so you know it’s not your fault. Hypothyroidism can affect anyone at any point in their life. The disease causes your immune system to believe the thyroid gland is a foreign body and creates the necessary antibodies to destroy the gland. This in turn stops the thyroid gland from producing the correct levels of thyroxine which is ultimately essential for keeping your metabolism running properly.

So How Am I Going To Lose Weight?

Generally the same way you lose weight with a normal thyroid gland applies to you as well. Eating a healthy and balanced diet and get some regular exercise. You will be able to control the weight gain if you stick to these rules. Obviously you need to follow a diet plan that fits with your condition.

There are a few important things to remember when trying to regulate your thyroid gland and ultimately lose weight:

The first and most important thing to remember is to seek help from your doctor and make sure you take your medication at the right times and the right levels.
You need to be following a healthy diet plan making sure you eat enough healthy fats, fruit and vegetables and things like coconut, seaweed and herbs.
You should not try to drastically reduce carbohydrates. Carbs are extremely important for the production of the thyroid hormone.

You should avoid any products that act as a fat burner or contain caffeine. If you are wanting to try diet pills you should focus on products that are 100% natural and safe diet pills or supplements. If you don’t select the right supplements they can aggravate your hypothyroidism even more!

I understand you are having a hard time losing weight, but beyond common belief there is something you can do to help.

Following a healthy diet plan you can regulate your underactive thyroid gland.

Have a read of the following web page which talks about a healthy diet plan created specifically for your condition: www.The-Natural-Thyroid-Diet.com

What Foods or Drinks to avoid with an overactive Thyroid?

Question by Lisa: What Foods or Drinks to avoid with an overactive Thyroid?
I suffer from an overactive Thyroid, but dont have received no Treatment jet. Are there any Foods or Drinks that should be avoided, and if so which ones? Sometimes I feel that my Thyroid acts up badly because of what I ate or drank could that be? What can I do for myself until a Doctor treats my Thyroid because the Symptoms are Very uncomfortable. Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Prairie Girl
There are no foods or drinks that should be avoided. Foods and drinks don’t make the symptoms of overactive thyroid any worse. An overactive thyroid can be corrected in 3 different ways. Medication, ablation or surgery. My sister had an overactive thyroid and hers was treated with ablation, which is using radioactive iodine to destroy the thyroid gland. Then you have to take thyroid replacement the rest of your life, but it’s less dangerous than surgery and if you can’t tolerate medication to reduce the overactive thyroid then there is no other option. good luck.

underactive thyroid symptoms-Underactive Thyroid Treatment – What Are My Options?

Underactive Thyroid Treatment – What Are My Options?

This article will discuss underactive Thyroid treatment options and whether it is best to go with conventional or alternative methods. I’ll also explain what an underactive Thyroid is and what some of the causes are. Always discuss any treatments you may be considering with your doctor or health care provider beforehand.

The Thyroid gland is located in the neck and its purpose is to produce a range of hormones which regulate our growth and metabolism. In some people the Thyroid can become sluggish and not enough Thyroid hormones are produced for the body to function correctly and we might suffer from symptoms such as low body temperature, dizziness, constipation and extreme tiredness. We call this condition Hypothyroidism which basically means an underactive Thyroid gland.

There are probably many, many causes for this condition including Iodine deficiency, build up of toxins in the body or it can even be from an attack on the Thyroid gland by your own immune system as in Hashimoto’s disease.

When diagnosed with Hypothyroidism your doctor will probably prescribe you Thyroxine (T4) which is a synthetic version of a Thyroid hormone. For many this works well and alleviates symptoms quickly but for others it can produce side effects and prolong the suffering.

Fortunately there are some very good alternatives for treating this condition such as natural Thyroid hormones and naturopathic medicine. Natural Thyroid hormones are derived from Pigs’ Thyroid glands and naturally contain all the Thyroid hormones which is why we see great results from these types of products. Naturopathic medicine approaches things in a different way and aims to heal the root cause of the Hypothyroidism where internal healing can sometimes return the Thyroid gland to its fully functional state. There are many underactive Thyroid treatments available which get great results but must only be done with the guidance of a qualified professional.

It could be. I have UNDERactive thyroid and often feel dizzy. 4 days ago I began taking Armour thyroid to regulate my T4 an T3 levels and I have moments of feeling HYPER and dizzy. underactive thyroid symptoms-Underactive thyroid 101: Some Convenient Information for Those Who May perhaps Believe They Might Have It

Underactive thyroid 101: Some Convenient Information for Those Who May perhaps Believe They Might Have It

Just to present you a short summary of what an underactive thyroid is; it is a condition in which your thyroid glands don’t create the right quantities of main hormones that affect virtually every other vital part of your body.  This results in many problems; nearly everyone of these issues are believed to be other things until you decide to go to your doctor to learn the true basis for some of your symptoms.

What does the disorder effect?

An underactive thyroid may impact a few  parts of your anatomy up to and including your heart, your brain, your digestive tract, and your skin. If you evidence any type of problem related to the organs I just discussed then you might have an underactive thyroid. From time to time people who have problems related to their heart, the digestive tract, and the skin, assume that it is something else completely not linked to what it really is.

What this means is that perhaps millions of Americans are walking around right now suffering from problems that are linked to an underactive thyroid and they don’t have any idea about what’s really going on inside of them. This is why it is essential to go to your doctor on a frequent basis to get looked at for such things. There are a lot of people in the population currently who have never even heard of an underactive thyroid.

Unawareness is not bliss

If you feel you may be suffering from an underactive thyroid, I would propose you take every step to get your condition treated.. It has been anticipated that approximately 50% of all people who have an underactive thyroid do not even know that it is treatable.. This is why it is essential for you to go to a doctor so that you are able to get the condition diagnosed and properly treated. Only a general practitioner will be skilled to accurately diagnose your underactive thyroid condition.

If you can discover it early you may be able to lead a normal and active life without too much interference from this condition. If you choose to take no notice of  the condition you may find that your symptoms get worse over time and increasingly become unbearable. This is because you will believe that your symptoms are related to other conditions.

Does it come with aging?

It has been recognized to be one of the side effects to aging or what some would label hypochondria. But it is usually not a true side effect of aging, there are other fundamental reasons why people develop underactive thyroids. However whatever the basis, it is essential that you discover it early, because if you don’t it will fuel your risk of heart disease by causing elevated blood pressure and high cholesterol levels.

So if you think you may perhaps be suffering from an underactive thyroid, it may be a good indication to look into it.

www.underactivethyroids.com is a great resource for anyone with a thyroid disorder. Marcus Williams set out to discover more information about thyroid conditions to better understand his wife’s condition. The more he read, the more he learned that there are many myths circulating about thyroid disorders that may be preventing sufferers from leading better lives. That’s why he wrote a free mini course at www.underactivethyroids.com to expose these myths and to develop a resource that fellow sufferers could use to make better informed decisions about their health.

Question by Phoenix, Wise Guru: What are your thyroid symptoms?
I’ve read all the literature and some other questions, but I want to know YOUR symptoms of an over or underactive thyroid. What do you experience? I think mine is low, but I haven’t had it checked yet. What do you say to the doctor if it is a low normal and they don’t think you need meds, but you know it just ain’t workin’ for you? “Give me some freakin’ drugs!”?
Holy crap! That low temperature thing is totally me! Who knew?!

A Natural Remedy for Underactive Thyroid

A thyroid that produces fewer hormones than necessary can cause many problems which may be alleviated by a natural remedy.  If the thyroid produces an inadequate amount of hormones this can cause symptoms that might not initially be associated with hypothyroidism.  The common indicators of hormonal imbalance can include, but certainly are not limited to, weight gain, lack of sleep, feeling tired and sluggish and reduced alertness. Yet, for some, these symptoms of hypothyroidism may be relieved by a natural therapy.

If the thyroid gland does not produce enough hormones, the body becomes unable to carry out vital functions. The thyroid gland produces a stimulating hormone (THS) which maintains the functionality and metabolic balance of many of the body’s organs.  This hormone determines how fast or slow the organs operate, as well as how efficiently they function. Hypothyroidism occurs when hormones are not produced by the thyroid causing energy levels to decrease throughout the body. All of these effects are due to a hormonal imbalance, but can be detected by getting your thyroid hormone levels checked on a regular basis. These problems may be improved and even prevented with the use of specific herbs or a natural therapy for underactive thyroid.

To improve thyroid health, particularly using a natural remedy for underactive thyroid, there are many “best practices” aimed at increasing your hormonal level. Some people react very positively to a particular natural therapy and not to others; as with almost everything each person’s sensitivity to a particular food, supplement, medication, etc. varies by gender, age, race, life-style, experience (exposure to external influences, extreme cases such as asbestos exposure), allergic susceptibility, heredity, along with others.

One natural therapy for underactive thyroid is Coconut Oil, which is used most to help lose weight that is put on when experiencing thyroid troubles.  Coconut oil is used for hypothyroidism, giving people the energy needed to lose weight and maintain a more active lifestyle.  A diet including 3-5 tablespoons of coconut oil daily may make a dramatic difference in an underactive thyroid patient’s weight, mood, hormonal balance, and energy. Granted, there must be some effort put in to lose the weight, but the coconut oil diet can improve your health in a safe and effective way while suffering with hypothyroidism.  By taking 3-5 tablespoons a day, over time you will regain the normal functions of a body with a healthy thyroid.

Additionally, one contributor to a thyroid producing insufficient hormone levels may be an unhealthy diet and improper eating habits.  A lack of energy is one result from having an underactive thyroid gland.  A lack of energy can cause a person not to exercise enough. Insufficient exercise along with an unhealthy diet may lead to weight gain.  This is a self-reinforcing cycle that may be broken by addressing the underlying cause – hypothyroidism. A simple foundation of good thyroid health is a supportive and preventative diet.

Coconut oil is a medium-chain fatty acid which increases metabolism and adds energy to your body which is necessary for the successful loss of weight. For people with a low thyroid gland function, this natural remedy for hypothyroidism is one key to regaining proper body functioning. Physical activity is another key. Sustaining sufficient hormonal levels and a balanced metabolism is crucial to one’s well being, especially when experiencing symptoms of underactive thyroid. With thyroid gland issues, many different afflictions may occur as a result.  Although the coconut oil diet does not cover all of these afflictions or symptoms, it may alleviate some very significant issues caused by hypothyroidism.

There are many effective, natural ways to increase your thyroid gland activity. A healthy coconut oil diet can support the thyroid and giving you the energy needed to lead a more active lifestyle.

Coconut Oil – one natural therapy for underactive thyroid problems. Always check with your health care professional if you suspect you have hypothyroidism.

Hi, Peter R. here. I lacked energy to do so many things resulting in a noticeable weight gain. Well, after a doctor’s visit I found out I had a mild case of UNDERactive thyroid. A couple of possible medications were expensive and I really did NOT like the possible side effects. I did some intense research and was surprised at what I discovered. I just had to share! P.S. I’ve lost 16 pounds so far!

i too was diagnosed with underactive thryoid when i was 16. there are so many signs and symptoms, weight gain, thinning hair, sensitivity to cold/heat, lowered libido, extreme fatigue, and much more. you will have to be on medication the rest of your life. it is almost like diabetes. i mean, when someone has diabetes their body (pancreas) doesnt produce insulin so they need to take in insulin. well when you have thyroid disease, your body (thyroid) doesnt produce enough of the thyroid hormone. and so you need to take the thyroid hormone in pill form. feel free to e-mail me with any questions becuase i am going through and understand your struggle and what you are going through!

Symptoms of low thyroid?

low thyroid symptoms
by iLoveButter

Question by katie b: Symptoms of low thyroid?
I am a 26 year old female. My doctor told me I have low thyroid after he got the results of blood work he had drawn on me. I have been taking Levothyroxine, only 25mgs a day. That is the lowest does. He said he wanted to eventually take me higher, as that is very low. I moved, and do not have a doctor, and it will take me a while to get one. I have been having some health concerns, and I was wondering if they could be due to the low thyroid, not being cured because of the low dose of medicine. My hair is very brittle, and up top it is thinning, almost like someone cut it. My throat seems to get hoarse. Very dizzy. The dizziness is the most concerning for me. Can anyone who is reading this tell me what they think from what I have said here? Also, what symptoms do you know of? Thanks a lot.

Best answer:

Answer by Sentric
You really need to know what the results of your thyroid function tests were. You would have had your TSH levels tested at least and anything over 3 is considered too high. You take thyroxine to bring this level down. Anything below 2.5 would be excellent. Symptoms of low thyroid function include insomnia, feel the cold, brittle fingernails, coarse hair, fatigue and constipation. You don’t need to have all of the symptoms. I take 25mcg of thyroxine daily and my TSH levels came down from 3.1 to 2.1 and my problems have improved. Hope this helps!
